Vegan Leather Care Guide
When we treat our pieces with a little care, they last longer and stay looking their best. ENCHAINE accessories are crafted from high-quality vegan leather — cruelty-free, durable, and designed to hold their sculptural shape wear after wear. Our vegan leather is substantial, typically around 2.4–2.8 mm thick, which is what gives ENCHAINE pieces their structured feel and lasting form rather than the flimsiness of thinner materials. It doesn’t demand much, but a few simple habits keep it looking as sharp as the day it arrived. Here’s everything you need to know.
Why Vegan Leather Is Easy to Care For
Unlike animal leather, ENCHAINE’s vegan leather doesn’t need conditioning oils or special treatments, and it won’t dry out or crack the way untreated leather can. It’s low-maintenance by nature. The guidance below isn’t about constant upkeep — it’s simply about protecting the finish and keeping the shape of your harnesses, chokers, and other pieces over the long term.
Storage: The Most Important Part
How you store your pieces matters more than anything else you’ll do. When we treat our accessories with love and care, they become part of our personal stories and serve us for years.
- Hang your piece on a sturdy hanger, or keep it in the soft dust bag it arrived in.
- Keep it away from heat, humidity, and dust.
- Avoid direct sunlight. Prolonged sun exposure is the main thing that fades and dulls the finish over time — this is the single most important rule.
- Don’t store it crushed in tight spaces, which can cause the piece to deform or hold creases.
- Fasten buckles and straps loosely when storing, so the piece keeps its intended shape.
Cleaning: Only When It Needs It
Your piece won’t need regular cleaning — there’s no routine to keep up. When it does need attention, after heavier wear or if it picks up dust or a mark, cleaning takes less than a minute:
- Wipe gently with a soft cotton cloth. If needed, use a cloth that’s very slightly damp, then let the piece air dry away from heat.
- Never submerge your piece in water.
- Keep it away from household cleaners, alcohol, and solvents — these can damage the finish.
- Avoid contact with sharp or hard objects that could scratch or gouge the surface.
Keeping Patent Pieces Glossy
Our patent styles — like the NOVA line — have a high-shine finish that’s easy to maintain. A quick buff with a soft, dry cloth brings the shine straight back after wear. Avoid abrasive materials that could scratch the coating, and store patent pieces where they won’t rub against other items.
Hardware, Chains & Rings
Keep the metal hardware dry to prevent tarnish, especially after wear against skin. A dry cloth restores the shine on buckles, O-rings, and chains.
After Wearing Against Skin
If you’ve worn a piece close to the skin, let it air out before storing. If it picks up any moisture, blot it gently rather than rubbing, and let it dry naturally — never with a hairdryer or on a radiator.
A Note on Your Made-to-Measure Piece
Because your ENCHAINE piece was built to your measurements, keeping its shape through proper storage matters even more. A little care preserves the exact fit it was made for. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get rid of a scuff or mark?
Gently, with a slightly damp cotton cloth. Avoid rubbing hard or using any chemicals, which can dull or damage the finish.
Does vegan leather last?
Yes. ENCHAINE’s vegan leather is thick and substantial, and with basic storage care it holds up well over years of wear.
Do I ever need to condition it?
No — vegan leather doesn’t need the oils or conditioners that animal leather requires. In fact, leather conditioners aren’t suitable for it. Simple storage and the occasional wipe are all it needs.
